Sorbitol is a sugar substitute and is used by the food industry as sweetener and wetting agent (humectant), but can also be present naturally (dried fruit). Sorbitol intolerance and fructose malabsorption are often interlinked.
After having dental work done my dentist gave me a prescription for a special toothpaste, Duraphat,
after a few weeks of use i started getting serious stomach pains and diarrhea, i had to write down changes in
my diet or anything different used. I had a look at the ingredients label on the toothpaste as i know i cannot
tolerate sorbitol at all, the 3rd ingredient was liquid sorbitol !! surprise surprise, i stopped using it and withing 4 days
the symptoms were significantly reduced.
