How much lactose is in a dairy product?

  • PDF
  • Print

A product is classified as "lactose-free" and therefore can be tolerated well when it contains less than 0,1g lactose per 100g. Some lactose intolerant people can, however, tolerate amounts of 1g per 100g in a product quite well.

The contents given in this table are for the purpose of orientation, and cannot be seen as absolute values. The lactose content can vary considerably. (see article "Lactose intolerance: What foods contain lactose?")

More detailed tables of lactose content can be found in the download section.

It has been reported that some dairy products like goat or sheep milk do not contain lactose and that they can therefore be tolerated well. This information is false!
